Hi, I’m Charlotte, an award-winning author and story coach.
The bestselling books of the modern era all have one thing in common: their plot twists and turns keep readers guessing. They build mystery and suspense that keeps readers engaged. All while leading to a conclusion that couldn’t happen any other way.
As the writer, it is our job to weave multiple characters, conflicts, and storylines together.
But with so many moving pieces, how do you keep track of everything?
And, more importantly, how do you build your story in a way that keeps readers interested and engaged to the very end?
And how do you construct that all important Belief Shift in the main character, that will take them from someone who is surviving, to a hero that is thriving, making it all believable and relatable and serendipitous in the way it comes together?
There is no piece of story more important than the plot. And readers can be selective, turning away from books that don’t have the right pacing, tension, or mystery.
To create the perfect plot for our story, we need a deep understanding of Story Structure: how each moment of the plot weaves together and connects the story.
We need to understand how a character’s beliefs can change. And most importantly, how to present it in a way that readers connect to and understand.
Wrapping our heads around all the elements of a plot to create the perfect outline can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be.
Plot Creation, to me, is a puzzle. It is about designing the key moments, and then connecting them. Once we understand how to design those key moments, building a well thought out plot becomes straight forward (no matter how many twists and turns we add in).
In this two day workshop, we’ll build your understanding of Story Structure and use this to build a complete plot outline for your story.
Let me share with you the basic framework that underlies all the most satisfying stories (regardless of genre) and how to use this framework as a leaping off point to build your unique story from.
Then, let’s go through the process together.
Whether you are working on a brand new story, fighting your way out of a dead-end draft, or deepening your understanding of your current work in progress, you will finish the workshop knowing what needs to happen for your plot to build and conclude in that mind-blowing, surprising-but-inevitable way.
You’ll have a better understanding of how your subplots tie into the main plot, how your theme and your main character’s belief shift underpin the key moments of your story, and how to use this understanding to create an unputdownable story.
